Housing Voucher Programs

Affordable Housing Options for Flint and Genesee County Residents

The Housing Voucher programs at Genesee Community Health Center (GCHC) connect residents in Flint and Genesee County with long-term, affordable housing opportunities. The programs help eligible individuals and families pay a portion of their rent while they work toward achieving financial stability and independence in permanent housing.

The Housing Voucher Programs

Genesee Community Health Center’s Housing Resource Center helps eligible Flint and Genesee County residents access Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) and Project-Based Vouchers (PBV) to secure safe, affordable housing. Our team helps participants understand and navigate the voucher process from start to finish.

Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program

The HCV Program assists eligible households by paying a portion of their rent directly to private landlords. Participants are responsible for finding their own housing that meets program requirements, including apartments, houses, or townhomes.

 Project-Based Vouchers (PBV) Program

The PBV Program links rental assistance to specific units or properties. Eligible households lease designated PBV units, and a portion of the rent is paid directly to the property owner while the household pays an income-based portion.

How the Housing Voucher Programs Work

The HCV Program assists eligible households by paying a portion of their rent directly to private landlords. Participants are responsible for finding their own housing that meets program requirements, including apartments, houses, or townhomes.

To receive assistance, you must be referred from Coordinated Entry (Metro Community Development) at 810-544-HELP and verified as experiencing homelessness before being placed on the waiting list.

Application Support and Guidance

The GCHC Housing Resource Center provides guidance throughout the voucher process, working in collaboration with MSHDA, the Continuum of Care for Genesee County, and other local agencies to help you understand your options, complete required steps, and move toward long-term housing stability.
