Homeless Prevention Program in Genesee County, MI

A supportive service that targets low-income households who are currently experiencing homelessness or are at serious risk of homelessness. Assistance is provided for possible short-term motel stays, rental arrearages, utilities, and water bills.

The costs of homelessness prevention are eligible only to the extent that the assistance is necessary to help the program participant regain stability in their current permanent housing or move into other permanent housing and achieve stability in that housing.

Genesee Community Health Center (GCHC) provides support for individuals and families in Flint and Genesee County who are at risk of losing their housing.

Our Homeless Prevention Program focuses on keeping people safely in their homes by offering rental assistance, utility support, case management, and referrals to community resources.

If you are behind on rent, facing eviction, or struggling to maintain stable housing, we can help you access the resources you need before a crisis happens.

What the Homeless Prevention Program Offers

Our team works closely with you to identify your immediate needs and develop a personalized plan to maintain housing stability.

Rent and Utility Assistance

Help with overdue rent or utility bills to prevent eviction or shut-offs and keep your household safe.

Case Management and Support Services

Work with a housing specialist who can connect you to resources, assist with budgeting, and coordinate with landlords or service agencies.

Referrals to Community Resources

Access a network of trusted local partners that provide additional support, including legal aid, employment help, and family services.

Who Qualifies for Assistance

Eligibility is based on household income, housing status, and risk of homelessness.
Applicants may qualify if they:

  • Live in Genesee County
  • Have received an eviction notice or disconnection notice
  • Are temporarily staying with others due to loss of housing
  • Are experiencing financial hardship that could lead to homelessness

Our team will assess your situation and connect you to the most appropriate program or community partner.
